Moldovan parliament of 11th legislative period concludes mandate, to continue to fulfill certain duties

The parliament of the 11th legislative period concludes its mandate, but the legislative institution will continue to fulfill certain duties. The mandate of the 11th legislature started on the election day – July 11, 2021, and ends after the four-year term expires. Until the lawful convening of the new parliament, the legislative institution will be able to fully exercise its duties of representation, control and internal organization. The legislative duty will be exercised in a limited capacity, restricted to the adoption of ordinary laws, resolutions and simple motions.

At the same time, according to a resolution adopted at the last plenary meeting on July 10, the ordinary spring session concludes on July 31, 2025. At the end of the session, Parliament Speaker Igor Grosu highlighted some achievements – gaining energy independence, adoption of measures to support young people, farmers, physicians, teachers, students, as well as increasing salaries, pensions and allowances.

“Four interesting, complicated years, full of challenges. But no matter how big the challenges were, it was worth it. It was all worth it – all our effort, all the effort of the officials, of our colleagues who work behind the scenes and are not visible, but who make things work. I believe that we have managed to turn problems and challenges into opportunities. We are at a historical turning point and it is our duty to do everything in our power to make all these positive changes irreversible. We have a duty to leave a good legacy and a European Moldova to our children,” emphasized the speaker.

At the end of the first ordinary session of 2025, the National Anthem of Moldova and the Anthem of the European Union were performed by the Border Police Band of Moldova, conducted by Alexei Tomsa, chief commissioner, and young soprano Andreea Tican, a student at the University of Music and Performing Arts in Vienna.

According to the parliament's rules of procedure, the autumn session will begin in next September. At the same time, legislative proposals that were included on the agenda of the plenary meetings, but were not examined or were voted in the first reading, will be carried over to the agenda of the next legislature. The parliamentary elections will take place on September 28, 2025.
