Moldovan firefighters to leave for Greece to help extinguish wildfires

A team of firefighters specialized in ground combat of forest fires (GFFFv-MD) from the Interior Ministry’s (MAI) General Inspectorate for Emergency Situations (IGSU) on 14 July will leave for Greece to participate in an international pre-positioning mission.

According to IGSU’s press service the mission aims to support the Greek authorities in the fight against vegetation fires that frequently affect the region during the summer season.

Before departure, at 07:20, a ceremony of the team’s dispatch will take place at the premises of Regional Search and Rescue Directorate No. 1.

This is the second consecutive summer that Moldovan firefighters are joining European partners, in order to contribute to the prevention and extinguishing of forest fires within the European Union's Civil Protection Mechanism.
