Denmark provides seven million euros to strengthen Moldova's defense capabilities
Denmark in the years to come will provide Moldova with financial aid amounting to seven million euros to strengthen the country's defense capabilities. Denmark's Minister of Defense, Troels Lund Poulsen has made statements to this effect at a joint conference with Moldova's Minister of Defense, Anatolie Nosatii.
Danish Minister of Defense Troels Lund Poulsen pays an official visit to Chisinau on July 11, at an invitation by Minister Anatolie Nosatii.
Troels Lund Poulsen said that the financial assistance would be provided during four years and would cover key areas, such as military training, combating hybrid and cyber warfare. He noted that a roadmap would initially be developed, in order to set the strategic directions of cooperation between the two countries, and starting November 1, the Danish Defense Agency would start its work in Moldova.
The official added that Denmark was also exploring, with Moldova, ways of joint support for Ukraine, focusing on increasing Moldova's resilience.
“This visit marks a milestone in our growing partnership. Our cooperation will contribute to strengthening Moldova's military capabilities and enhancing its resilience,” stated Troels Lund Poulsen.
“Together we are stronger, and we can send a clear message: partnerships based on solidarity, common values and mutual respect are key to lasting peace and security,” added the Danish official.
For his part, Minister Anatolie Nosatii thanked the partners for their support.
“It is an honor to host the first official visit of a Danish Defense Minister to Chisinau. Your presence here is an important gesture of solidarity and support for our goals regarding defense capacity building, institutional development, and maintaining peace in the region. We know that Denmark has recently taken over the Presidency of the Council of Europe. Congratulations on this important milestone. We are confident that your mandate will be marked by significant achievements in promoting European peace and security projects. Moldova is firmly committed to the path of European integration. We want a stable, secure, and prosperous future for our citizens and we see this future within the great European family. We have already taken concrete steps in this direction, including hosting the first Moldova-EU Summit under the auspices of President Maia Sandu. Thank you for your confidence and consistent support towards Moldova's European future,” the minister said.
The defense minister pointed out that Denmark provided Moldova with real and unconditional support through concrete measures aimed at modernizing defense capabilities. He emphasized that Moldova appreciated the support Denmark provides to Ukraine.
“Ukraine is resisting Russian aggression, and this resilience implicitly protects Moldova. The consequences of the war in Ukraine directly affect our stability. We face real risks, including unauthorized flyovers and drone attacks. Denmark is a faithful supporter of our goals within the international community. We continue to rely on your support, especially through projects within the European Peace Facility. These platforms play an essential role in strengthening the resilience of partner states and supporting regional security policy,” Nosatii added.
Moldova's Defense Minister also said that, during the meeting, the sides had discussed possibility of expanding bilateral cooperation through new initiatives and projects, including the willingness to appoint a Danish military attaché for Moldova.
