Moldovan president conveys congratulatory message on Ukraine's Independence Day
Chisinau, August 24 /MOLDPRES/- President of the Republic of Moldova Maia Sandu today, August 24, sent a congratulatory message to Ukrainian people on Independence Day, the presidential press service has reported.
"Today Ukraine marks Independence Day. It is a day full of significance for the neighboring and friendly country, which is now fighting to preserve its identity and right to be. For six months, Ukraine has been fighting the Russian invasion - and resisting. It fights for its right to exist as an independent state within legitimate, internationally recognized borders. For the prosperous and peaceful future of its citizens, for the chance of its children to live in a free world," said the head of state.
Maia Sandu said that the war started by Russia against Ukraine destroyed dozens of cities, caused thousands of victims, drove millions of people from their homes. But, the head of state says, this unjust and bloody war has not broken the spirit of Ukrainians. "The spirit of a free people cannot be broken. Today we celebrate together with the Ukrainians this spirit", said Maia Sandu.
"Through sacrifice, Ukraine is also fighting for our freedom. Moldova remains with the Ukrainians from now on, following the European path that our countries have chosen. Through solidarity, we will defend our freedom and ensure a better future for our people, in the family of European states", Maia Sandu said in her congratulatory message for Ukraine.
