
New Moldovan Army contingent detached to Kosovo
Chisinau, 5 December /MOLDPRES/ - Acting Prime Minister Gheorghe Brega today attended a ceremony on the detaching of a National Army contingent in mission to Kosovo, the government's communication and media relations department has reported.
In his greeting message, the acting prime minister said that Moldova's participation in peacekeeping operations represented an opportunity to contribute to international security. Brega noted that, in this way, Moldova was materializing its foreign policy.
"Such operations, in which our servicemen participate, prove our state's aspirations to promote peace and stability worldwide," Gheorghe Brega said.
The acting prime minister thanked Moldova's international partners for the support provided to organise the concerned mission. He specified that this would have a positive impact on the National Armed Forces by the improvement of the professional aptitudes of the servicemen.
At the today's ceremony, the acting prime minister handed over the Colours to the commander of the KFOR-4 contingent, lieutenant colonel Ruslan Cojocaru. Also, Gheorghe Brega addressed the contingent, wishing the servicemen an easy mission and prudence in crisis situations.
Attending the event were also acting Defence Minister Anatol Salaru, Italian Ambassador to Moldova Enrico Nunziata, civil servants of the Defence Ministry, as well as families of the military.
The KFOR-4 contingent of the National Army is made up of 41 Moldovan servicemen, who will participate in the mission of the Multinational Peacekeeping Forces at the Italian military base Vilaggio from the Pech settlement, Kosovo. The mission's duration is six months.
