President, Latvian Speaker approach Moldova's European path, cooperation with Latvia, regional security
President of the Republic of Moldova Maia Sandu met today with Latvian Speaker Daiga Mieriņa and her delegation, on an official visit to Chișinău.
The discussions focused on strengthening bilateral cooperation, including Moldova's advancing on its European path. The head of state thanked Latvia for the consistent support and assistance in the implementation of reforms and alignment with the community acquis.
Latvia, which joined the European Union 20 years ago, is an important partner for the Republic of Moldova in the accession process and an example of democratic and economic transformation – a country that has shown that consistent reforms can bring security, prosperity and a better life for citizens.
President Sandu also reiterated the importance of maintaining peace in Moldova in the context of the war in the neighboring country and the efforts of state institutions to ensure the organization of elections without foreign interference, so that Moldovan citizens can freely decide their future.
