Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation to provide support for strengthening parliamentary democracy in Moldova
The Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation will support the strengthening of the basic duties of the parliament in the next four years. Parliament Speaker Igor Grosu has discussed with Director of the Swiss Cooperation Office Guido Beltrani the Strengthening Parliamentary Democracy in Moldova (PADEM) Project, which has been recently launched.
To enhance the institutional capacities of the parliament, the PADEM Project is structured into three basic components. These are the legislative process, parliamentary control, representation and communication. The actions due to be implemented aim at making parliamentary activity more efficient, boosting cooperation with civil society and facilitating the transposition of European legislation into the national framework.
Parliament Speaker Igor Grosu thanked for the support provided. "We need to improve the processes at the institution, in order to adjust the quality to the speed at which we are moving, especially now that we are in negotiations with the European Union," the speaker also said.
The Strengthening Parliamentary Democracy in Moldova project will be implemented till March 31, 2029 and could be extended. It also includes external partners – the Swiss Parliamentary Service, the Parliamentary Institute at the parliament of the Czech Republic, the National Assembly of Hungary, the Croatian parliament and the Lithuanian parliament.
It is worth mentioning that the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation has previously provided support to the parliament, based on a Financing Agreement signed on July 1, 2024. Thus, the IT infrastructure of the institution has been improved and officials from the parliament’s secretariat participated in an exchange of experience with the Swiss Parliamentary Service.
