Prime Minister Alexandru Munteanu today participated in the seventh edition of the Justice Reform and Combating Corruption Forum, organized by the Legal Resources Centre from Moldova. The PM reaffirmed that justice reform was a priority for the Government, in order to enhance citizens' trust, ensure the country's economic development and integrate Moldova into the European family.

"Our citizens deserve a justice system they can fully trust – independent, swift, uncorrupted and accessible. This is not just a political promise. It is a state obligation and an essential condition for Moldova's accession to the European Union," said the prime minister.

Prime Minister Alexandru Munteanu emphasized that justice reform stayed the foundation of Moldova's development, and in recent years, brave steps had been taken. The main measures include strengthening the independence of judges through constitutional amendments, eliminating political influence from the Superior Council of Magistracy, launching extraordinary integrity evaluations and initiating the reform of the Supreme Court of Justice. All these progressions have been confirmed by the European Commission's Report in 2025.

Among the persisting problems mentioned, there were the excessive duration of some cases, pressures on honest magistrates and staffing shortages. "The government's response is clear: concluding the extraordinary evaluation, filling vacant positions, enhancing the attractiveness of legal professions, speeding up corruption cases, confiscating criminal assets, digitalizing justice, a clearer delineation of responsibilities and more efficient coordination of activities between different institutions," said the prime minister.

The PM also highlighted the direct link between justice reform and the country's economic development. "Investors demand clear rules, stability and courts that enforce the law quickly and impartially. An independent justice system is a fundamental condition for economic growth and citizens' well-being," said the prime minister, expressing the Government's openness to solutions and proposals that strengthen the rule of law.

The forum organized by the Legal Resources Centre from Moldova takes place on December 16-17 and represents a dialogue space for professionals in the field. The current edition addresses such topics as aligning the justice reform framework with the National EU Accession Plan, digital justice, external evaluation of justice, the results of combating corruption and recovering illicit assets.
