President Maia Sandu has taken part in the EBA Business Outlook 2026 conference, organized by the European Business Association. At the event, she referred to the current challenges and strategic directions for strengthening economic resilience in a global context marked by uncertainty.

In her speech, the head of state emphasized the profound changes the global economy was undergoing: “We no longer live in a world of stability, but rather in a world of uncertainty,” Maia Sandu underlined. The president stressed that Moldova must also strengthen its resilience in the economic field. “It is time to talk more and more about our economic resilience, about what this resilience means and, first of all, about increasing competitiveness,” the head of state noted. In the context, the Moldovan president pointed out that a major obstacle stayed the demographic situation, and that solutions must come from modernization: “Part of the solution must undoubtedly come from the adoption of technologies,” said Maia Sandu.

Another essential pillar in strengthening economic resilience is energy security: “We must reduce vulnerabilities to energy crises and increase the degree of energy independence of Moldova,” the head of state said. She noted that this effort required the involvement of both the public and private sectors.

Also, the president drew attention to the need to continue justice reform, given the persistent problems reported by entrepreneurs. Maia Sandu also highlighted the importance of building a functional state, capable of responding to the needs of the economy and society.

The president referred to the historic opportunity offered by the European integration, including through the Growth Plan instrument, for the capitalization of which joint efforts are crucial: “We need very good cooperation between the government and the private sector,” Maia Sandu stressed, adding that tangible progress is required: “It is very important not only to spend the money, but to show results.”

The Moldovan president also addressed the role of technology in increasing the competitiveness of the country: “Those who will succeed in mastering technologies, using artificial intelligence and applying these tools to increase their competitiveness will determine to what extent Moldova will secure a place among prosperous countries or will be left behind.”

In conclusion, the head of state highlighted the imperative of continuous adaptation: “The key word in the new world is adaptation. The world that is coming will be very different.” At the same time, Maia Sandu called for collective responsibility: “It is important that we do everything we can to help shape a better world,” the Moldovan president added.
