Government manages challenges posed by Russia's destabilizing tactics
Chisinau, Dec 21 /MOLDPRES/- Government spokesman Daniel Voda today clarified the state of emergency declared by parliament.
"Absolutely surprising are the statements by some opposition lawmakers who, although they attended the Parliament meetings, where the state of emergency was requested, and had the opportunity to study the draft text, including during the session, as well as had the opportunity to ask questions and listen to the Prime Minister's speech, continue to suggest that there is any problem with the state of emergency declared by the parliament" Daniel Voda said.
In this context, Voda said that the Moldovan legislation provides for a state of emergency as a tool for crisis management. "The Government has requested this measure against the background of a complicated situation, marked by the risk of a humanitarian crisis on the left bank of the Dniester, due to the actions of the Russian Federation and uncertainties regarding gas supplies to the Transnistrian region of our country," he added.
He noted that the Government has transparently discussed the issue both at own meeting (December 11) and in the Parliament (December 12), and the Prime Minister has clearly explained the reasons for this decision. The press release and the speech were published immediately after the decision, providing clarity to citizens.
"The real issue is the complicated context and the humanitarian risks, not the attempt to distort the purpose of the state of emergency. MPs, including those from the opposition, voted in a majority in favor of this measure precisely to protect Moldovan citizens and provide the necessary levers for the authorities to act", concluded Daniel Voda.
Since 16 December, a 60-day state of emergency has been declared throughout Moldova.
