Cabinet led by Vasile Tofan to seek vote of confidence from deputies on Tuesday
The cabinet of ministers proposed by the designated candidate for the position of prime minister, Vasile Tofan, will seek a vote of confidence from Parliament on Tuesday, July 21. During a plenary sitting, deputies are to examine the Government’s Activity Program and the composition of the new Cabinet.
The decision to convene the plenary sitting was taken today by the Parliament Standing Bureau. The meeting will start at 11:00.
During the sitting, Vasile Tofan will present the governing program and the team proposed to lead the ministries, and will then request the deputies’ support for investing the new Government.
President of the Republic of Moldova Maia Sandu nominated Vasile Tofan as candidate for the position of prime minister last week, following consultations with the parliamentary factions.
During this period, the designated candidate is holding consultations with representatives of associations from various fields, civil society, and parliamentary factions, in order to finalize the Government’s Activity Program and the composition of the Cabinet of Ministers.
According to the law, Parliament grants the vote of confidence to the Government with the support of a majority of elected deputies. After the vote of confidence is given, the President of the Republic of Moldova appoints the Government.
Under the Constitution, the Executive ensures the implementation of the state’s internal and external policies and exercises the general leadership of public administration. The Government carries out its activity on the basis of the Activity Program accepted by Parliament.
