European Union supports reforms underway in justice sector, fighting corruption in Moldova

Chisinau, 28 October /MOLDPRES/ - Moldova enjoys the European Union’s support in the field of reforms in the justice sector and anticorruption.  

The sixth meeting of the EU-Moldova Association Council took place in Brussels today. At a news conference held jointly with Prime Minister Natalia Gavrilita, the coordinator of the European Union’s foreign policy, Josep Borrell, said that the European Union would further back the reforms underway in the justice sector and the anticorruption fight.    

The European official said that the dialogue with Moldova was intense and would continue on more dimensions, including in the security sector. ‘’We will continue our cooperation efforts for deepening the rapprochement of the Moldovan state with the European Union,’’ Borrell noted.

At the same time, PM Natalia Gavrilita said that ‘’the Moldovan citizens gave a political mandate in the favour of the reforms and expect their fulfillment from the authorities.’’ ‘’We have the openness of the European Union’s authorities to support the deepening of these reforms. We offer thanks for the financial assistance provided, which help us maintain the budgetary stability,’’ the prime minister specified.

Natalia Gavrilita also said that the European Union remained the principal commercial partner of Moldova. She noted that the Moldovan authorities wanted to get the agreement for the export of animal origin products.

In Brussels, the prime minister was accompanied by Foreign Affairs and European Integration Minister Nicu Popescu, Economics Minister Sergiu Gaibu and Justice Minister Sergiu Litvinenco.
