LIVE // Romanian Prime Minister begins visit to Moldova

Prime Minister of Romania Ilie Bolojan started his working visit to the Republic of Moldova at Leușeni–Albița border crossing, accompanied by Premier Dorin Recean. The two officials reviewed the concrete steps needed to reduce waiting times at the border and facilitate the circulation of people and goods.

In this context, Recean announced that starting 24 August, coordinated control will be set up at Galați-Giurgiulești border crossing.

Additionally, by the end of this year, the necessary infrastructure will be prepared to establish coordinated control at Sculeni-Sculeni border crossing.

Dorin Recean also mentioned that teams from both banks of the Prut River will create a working group to analyze options for modernizing border infrastructure, as well as organizing coordinated control at crossings with better-developed infrastructure.

At the same time, the officials discussed the need to speed up the implementation of an electronic scheduling system so that carriers can register online and know exactly when they can cross the border.

“To ensure crossing without the introduction of illegal substances, we are strengthening cooperation between institutions, including by increasing the number of canine resources. We have found that some issues can be managed through better internal organization and coordination of teams, so that checks are faster, more efficient, and secure, benefiting all citizens,” said Dorin Recean.
