Moldovan, Romanian officials approach cooperation

Chișinău and Bucharest - I am convinced - one day in the near future - will sit at the European decision table for the future of the entire continent. Prime Minister Dorin Recean made the statement during a press conference held alongside Prime Minister of Romania Ilie Bolojan, who is on a working visit to our country today.

Dorin Recean said “the relationship between the Republic of Moldova and Romania has been built over the years on the ties between the people on both banks of the Prut and cannot be destroyed by time or politicians, but can be strengthened to ensure resistance against any foreign challenges and to resolve citizens’ issues as quickly as possible.”

The official noted that in recent years, the two states “have supported each other in the face of hardships, in the face of foreign interference in elections, but also have celebrated in the same joy the successes of each.”

Dorin Recean emphasized that Romania stands by the Republic of Moldova in building its European path and the partnership between the governments of the two countries, between companies, theaters, and universities, materializes in concrete results for people on both banks of the Prut.

Recean thanked Romania for the support.

“Thank you, Mr. Prime Minister, for helping us in our process of becoming energy independent. We take over 50% of our electricity from Romania at advantageous prices and together we are building interconnection lines - vital for our energy security,” Recean said.

The Prime Minister of the Republic of Moldova mentioned the main joint projects carried out by the two states, referring to cooperation in the energy, economic and infrastructure development sectors. The official specifically highlighted that all joint projects “depend on how we will choose our future.”

“However, all these depend on how we will choose our future. Because the future is built, not predicted. Moldova has a crucial decision to make in the autumn, and I am confident that our people will choose what is best for them. We have a lot to do and no time to waste. We have lost too many years previously. Chișinău and Bucharest - I am convinced - one day in the near future - will sit at the European decision table for the future of the entire continent,” concluded Dorin Recean.
