Coordinated control at Galați-Giurgiulești border crossing to be implemented from 24 August

The coordinated control at Galați-Giurgiulești border crossing will be set up starting 24 August. The announcement was made today by Prime Minister Dorin Recean, who welcomed his counterpart from Bucharest, Ilie Bolojan, during his visit to our country, through Leușeni-Albita crossing point.

The two officials discussed the concrete steps to be taken to reduce waiting times at the border and to facilitate the movement of people and goods.

In this regard, besides instituting coordinated control at Galați-Giurgiulești border crossing, by the end of this year, the necessary infrastructure will be prepared to apply coordinated control at Sculeni - Sculeni border crossing as well.

Recean announced that teams on both banks of the Prut River will create a working group to analyze options for modernizing border infrastructure, as well as organizing coordinated control at crossing points with better-developed infrastructure.

Another subject reviewed by the two prime ministers concerns the need to speed up the implementation of the electronic scheduling system, so that carriers can register online and know exactly the time they can cross the border.

Dorin Recean emphasized that some issues can be managed through better internal organization and coordination of teams, so that controls are faster, more efficient, and safer, benefiting all citizens.

Currently, coordinated control at the Moldovan-Romanian border is applied at Leușeni-Albita crossing point. Coordinated control is defined as the border crossing control conducted separately by the departure state's control personnel followed consecutively by the entry state's personnel, conducted on the territory of a single state.
