Moldova, India signed agriculture memorandum

Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Moldova Mihai Popșoi met in New Delhi with his Indian counterpart, Subrahmanyam Jaishankar to discuss strengthening bilateral relations and expanding cooperation in various fields.

According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, a key moment of the meeting was the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding in agriculture, which will facilitate the exchange of experience, technologies, and best practices between farmers from the two countries. The agreement also provides for the implementation of modern solutions to increase production and expand the access of agricultural products to new markets.

An important topic of the discussions was the recent decision of the Government of India, which allows for the free access of Moldovan apples to the local market. This opening offers significant opportunities for Moldovan producers, considering the size of the Indian market, with a population of 1.4 billion people.

“The Republic of Moldova greatly appreciates the support and cooperation of the Indian authorities in achieving this endeavor,” Popșoi said. In this context, today a container of apples from the Republic of Moldova will be shipped to India, according to the new market access regulations.

In addition to agriculture, the officials also discussed the development of cooperation in the aviation sector. Popșoi met with Minister of Civil Aviation of India Sri Rammohan Naidu Kinjarapu, and agreed to speed up negotiations for a bilateral aviation agreement. The agreement will facilitate Indian investment in the aeronautics sector of Moldova.

The two ministers discussed expanding cooperation in education, aiming at new opportunities for students from both countries.
