Moldova's president, after Vladimir Plahotniuc's arrest, says Moldovan justice has no reason to delay, justice must be served
President Maia Sandu has come up with a reaction following the arrest of the former leader of the Democratic Party of Moldova (PDM), Vladimir Plahotniuc, in Greece. The head of state said that it was now necessary for the extradition to happen as soon as possible and for justice to be served in this case.
“After six years, we finally have good news. It is now important for all relevant responsible institutions to work, in order to get the extradition. The extradition must happen as soon as possible, observing all procedures. Now, the Moldovan justice system has no reason to delay justice. Now, justice must finally be served. This is a success for all the institutions that have worked on this matter, but as I have said before, justice must be served. Now, the Moldovan justice system must ensure justice is upheld. The institutions in charge of extradition will work and make sure that all procedures are observed, but for us to celebrate, justice must be done thoroughly,” said Maia Sandu.
The General Police Inspectorate on July 22 informed that the former PDM president, Vladimir Plahotniuc, had been arrested in Greece. Subsequently, the Prosecutor General's Office (PG) said that it had initiated the process of preparing the necessary documents to accompany the extradition request.
According to the PG, Vladimir Plahotniuc was placed on an international wanted list, being charged with the committing a string of crimes, including: creation and leading of a criminal organization, scam of a particularly large scale and money laundering in particularly large amounts.
