Moldova strengthens economic diplomacy under coordination of Foreign Affairs Ministry
The Foreign Affairs Ministry (MAE) will take over central responsibilities for promoting economic diplomacy abroad, including the secondment of diplomats specialized in trade and economic affairs to diplomatic missions and consular offices. The government approved a draft to this effect today.
Deputy Prime Minister, Foreign Affairs Minister Mihai Popsoi said that the main goal of the draft was to develop a strategic economic diplomacy system, coordinated under the aegis of the MAE, which will ensure, among other things, strengthening the state's capacity to more effectively promote its trade and investment interests abroad, aligning the regulatory framework with European best practices, ensuring policy coherence and making efficient use of human resources.
"This process includes clarifying institutional competences and eliminating fragmentation. It is important to underline that MAE’s coordinating role does not exclude the active participation of the Ministry of Economic Development and Digitization (MDED) and other institutions in promoting external economic interests and fulfilling the tasks of trade and investment diplomacy. The MDED will continue to delegate diplomats specialized in the economic field," Mihai Popsoi emphasized.
The government decision will enter into force upon the expiry of one month after the date of its publication in Moldova’s Official Journal.
