Moldova, Turkey strengthen economic cooperation; trade reaches 638.7 million dollars

The trade between Moldova and Turkey reached 638.7 million dollars in the first six months of 2026, up by 12.8 per cent compared with the same period last year. The data was presented during a meeting between Deputy Prime Minister, Foreign Affairs Minister Mihai Popsoi and new Ambassador of Turkey to Moldova Nazmiye Başaran.

The meeting took place on the occasion of the Turkish ambassador’s beginning of her mandate in Moldova. Mihai Popsoi wished the diplomat success in carrying out her mandate and expressed confidence that the relations between Moldova and Turkey would continue to develop for the benefit of the citizens of both countries.

The officials discussed strengthening the Moldovan-Turkish partnership and boosting the cooperation in the energy, economic and trade sectors. An important topic was attracting Turkish investors to Moldova.

Mihai Popsoi emphasized Moldova’s interest in increasing domestic exports to the Turkish market and facilitating contacts between the business communities of the two countries.

The meeting also addressed the preparation and organization of the next round of interministerial political consultations between Moldova and Turkey.

At the same time, Mihai Popsoi reiterated that European integration represents the strategic priority of Moldova.

The officials also discussed developments in the Autonomous Territorial Unit of Gagauzia and initiatives to protect and promote the Gagauz language, including through cultural and educational projects.
