United States, Moldova strengthen cooperation on cybersecurity
The cooperation between the United States and Moldova in the field of cybersecurity helped block 3.96 million malicious requests during Moldova’s 2024 presidential election. The data today was presented by Deputy Chief of Mission of the United States Nick Pietrowicz at the Road to Schuman seminar, held in Chisinau.
The official highlighted the results of cooperation between the two countries in the field of cybersecurity.
According to the cited source, American support also included assistance for Moldova’s Cybersecurity Agency and its incident response team.
At the same time, the United States allocated 8 million dollars to promote shared cybersecurity goals.
The Road to Schuman seminar also addressed the measures needed to protect critical infrastructure, including energy, water supply, communications, transport, and digital infrastructure systems.
The participants discussed Moldova’s experience in strengthening resilience in the face of energy-related pressures, cyberattacks and other threats. In the context, Moldova’s connection to the European electricity network and efforts to strengthen energy and digital security were highlighted.
The European Union supports Moldova in strengthening energy independence, developing resilient infrastructure, enhancing cybersecurity and implementing reforms as part of the country’s European integration path.
The Protecting the Backbone seminar is part of the Moldova Security Forum and serves as a preparatory event for the 2026 edition of the Forum, which will take place in Brussels on November 17–18, under the auspices of the EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Kaja Kallas.
