Moldovan electoral body published drafted version of proposals for new Electoral Code
Chisinau, June 10 / MOLDPRES /- The Central Electoral Commission today published the drafted version of the proposals for a new Electoral Code.
According to the CEC, these were elaborated following the analysis of the electoral and related legal framework, as well as for the purpose of resolving the Addresses of the Constitutional Court issued after the last national elections. At the same time, the efforts to improve the legislation were based on the notifications made by the electoral subjects, but also taking into account the findings and recommendations of the international and national election observation missions.
Since the creation of the working group that drafted the proposals in the autumn of 2021, a series of public consultations have been organized with the participation of representatives of political parties, civil society, the media, electoral experts and the institutions of the statute for which are assigned additional responsibilities during the election period. In this process, more than 400 proposals were received and examined with the aim of improving electoral legislation and procedures.
Thus, at the meeting of the Commission on Tuesday, June 14, the drafted version of the proposals for a new Electoral Code is to be discussed and approved by the members of the CEC.
In case of approval, the CEC decision with the corresponding annexes will be submitted to the Government and the Parliament for examination of the opportunity to amend the electoral and related legislation.
