Moldovan government's acting secretary general says to work at maximum speed, European integration means benefits for citizens

An MP of the Action and Solidarity Party (PAS) deputy, acting secretary general of the government, Ana Calinici, with confidence and determination, announces the beginning of an intense phase of parliamentary and governmental activity, prioritizing the European integration of Moldova.

“During the campaign, we went to citizens, visited homes, attended meetings or lunchtime breaks and sought support for the European integration parliament. Concrete steps will follow to achieve this national plan, for which we received support on September 28,” said Ana Calinici.

The lawmaker noted that the parliament would focus its efforts on implementing the 2024–2027 National Accession Plan, which includes legislative harmonization and concrete action application. An important role will be played by the Commission for European Integration, in charge not only of the legislative process, but also for parliamentary oversight, through public consultations with civil society, citizens and international partners.

“We will work at maximum speed to deliver what we promised. European integration means benefits for citizens, important reforms—some, surely, will be unpopular. A permanent dialogue with citizens, media and our partners will be essential to explain each stage of this process,” emphasized Calinici.

According to the MP, the reforms will bring visible results, even if some changes may be difficult initially.

“Changes may be unpleasant at first, but ultimately bring benefits: more transparent budgets, accountability, better public services for citizens. Many countries in the region have undergone such transformations—we will too. It is important to detach from old processes and systems, if we want real change,” she added.

Calinici said that the new parliament and future government would embark on their journey with three major priorities: economic growth, European integration and justice reform.

The inaugural meeting of the parliament of the 12th legislative period, elected in the September 28 polls, took place on October 22. The parliamentary majority is made up of 55 PAS MPs, while five other entities—Party of Socialists (PSRM), Party of Communists (PCRM), Alternative Bloc, Our Party (PN), and Democracy and Home Political Party (PPDA)—declared themselves in opposition. Igor Grosu was reelected as parliament speaker.
