Coordinated actions to reconnect consumers to electricity

The Ministry of Energy, together with the relevant institutions, has established a set of short- and medium-term intervention measures to reconnect consumers who have been cut off from electricity due to bad weather.

“In the energy sector, a lot of actions have been approved to address the situation. Within the distribution system operator, intervention capacity has been increased, the number of energy specialists working to remedy the situations has been raised, and the necessary equipment has been supplemented,” said Minister of Energy Dorin Junghietu today.

The official mentioned that priority is being given to restoring power supply to critical infrastructure, such as hospitals, health centers, water and sewage systems, telecommunications, heating, medical points, and public order institutions.

“Priority is given to critical services to restore electricity supply where necessary. We are talking in particular about medical points, water pumping stations, and telecommunications,” the Minister of Energy emphasized.

At the same time, the responsible authorities have ensured the reconfiguration of power supply schemes for localities where this is possible.

“In the localities where it is possible, work is underway and has been carried out to reconfigure the supply scheme. Thus, where alternative supply modes are possible, efforts are being made to power the localities and the respective consumers,” he said.

In addition, the authorities have ordered measures to ensure energy supply by mobilizing mobile generators with the support of the General Inspectorate for Emergency Situations (IGSU) for essential services in case of need, such as water pumping stations, medical points, telecommunications, and accommodation centers.

In the context of bad weather in recent days, there have been recorded broken conductors, bent cross-arms, the collapse of dozens of poles, including fallen conductors and broken conductors in certain sections, as well as trees fallen between poles and malfunctioning equipment in the network. Thus, if citizens detect broken or fallen cables on the ground, they are urged to immediately inform the distribution system operator or call 112.

Over 15,000 consumers from around 100 localities have been disconnected from the electricity grid due to bad weather conditions, according to data presented by the Ministry of Energy on the morning of Wednesday, January 28.
