Olympic vice champion gives up parliamentary mandate, returns to sport
Olympic vice champion Anastasia Nichita is giving up her parliamentary mandate and returning to sport. The announcement was made this morning on a social network.
The athlete mentioned that her decision is well thought out and taken with a sense of responsibility.
“The decision I am sharing today was not an easy one, nor was it made in haste. It came after much reflection, sincerity and respect for the people who placed their trust in me. Lately, I have tried to fulfill, at the same time, the role of mother, the role of athlete who still dreams of Los Angeles 2028, and the responsibility of being a member of Parliament. I wanted to be everywhere, for everyone. But the truth is simple and painful: no matter how strong we are, we cannot be in all places at once. I choose to be where I am most needed now: next to my child, next to my family and next to the dream that still keeps me alive and strong. I choose to be a mother with all my heart and an athlete with the same faith with which I have always stepped onto the mat and into life,” Anastasia Nichita stated.
The Olympic vice champion expressed her gratitude to all those who trusted her.
“The role of member of Parliament requires full presence, complete dedication and an energy that, at this moment, I cannot offer in the way people who elected me deserve. Out of respect for you, for this position and for the country, I cannot and do not want to remain only in name, without the full commitment that is needed. I leave Parliament with my head held high and with immense gratitude to all those who trusted me. Every vote, every message of support, every kind word meant a great deal. Even the difficult moments, the criticism and the attacks strengthened me and taught me important lessons. I remain involved in public life, and whenever I can contribute to the development and promotion of sporting and national values, I will do so with an open heart. I thank you from the bottom of my heart for your trust, for your patience and for being part of this journey of mine,” Anastasia Nichita remarked.
Anastasia Nichita was elected as a member of Parliament on the Action and Solidarity Party list, following the parliamentary elections of September 28, 2025.
