Update on situation caused by bad weather

The Government announces that following bad weather, the responsible authorities have intervened promptly, remain mobilized and are acting in a coordinated manner to clear the roads and protect people’s safety.

According to data from the State Hydrometeorological Service, against the background of precipitation, predominantly in the form of rain, and temperatures below 0°C, there is a continued risk of light ice formation over large areas. Dense fog, sleet and icy roads are recorded across the entire territory of the country.

The carriageway of national and local roads has been treated with anti-skid material. So far, 145 special vehicles of the National Road Administration (AND) and 372 workers have been deployed across the country, spreading over 1,460 tons of technical salt and about 196 tons of anti-skid material.

At present, traffic is flowing smoothly, with no blockages on national or local roads. AND, contracted road services and Exdrupo enterprise in Chișinău are continuing to spread anti-skid material in the areas where intervention during the night was not possible.

At the moment, Chișinău International Airport is operating normally. Runways are cleared, and aircraft are landing and taking off without impediments.

In the energy sector, on the morning of January 28, more than 15,000 consumers from about 100 localities are disconnected from the electricity grid. 3,811 consumers from 11 localities are in the responsibility area of the distribution system operator Premier Energy Distribution, and 11,383 consumers are in the area operated by RED-Nord. The electricity distribution system operators continue working to repair the outages.

In the last 24 hours, the pre-hospital emergency medical service has received 2,607 requests, including 401 for children.

In the period 27.01.2026, 06:00 – 28.01.2026, 05:30, weather-related calls were registered as follows:

Emergency Service 112 – 176 calls;

General Police Inspectorate – 131 calls;

General Inspectorate for Emergency Situations – 21 calls;

National Road Administration – 102 calls.

In the period 27.01.2026, 08:00 – 28.01.2026, 08:00, the Ministry of Internal Affairs teams intervened as follows: 129 employees of the General Inspectorate of Carabineers, with 19 transport units; 327 employees of the General Inspectorate for Emergency Situations (IGSU), with 89 special vehicles; 1,337 employees of the General Police Inspectorate, with 392 patrol cars. In total, 1,793 employees and 500 transport units were mobilized.

The carabineers provided assistance to citizens in 87 cases to help them move along sidewalks and cross streets (especially in the municipality of Chișinău, as well as in Căușeni, Orhei and Ungheni), as well as 10 cases of support for vehicles.

In the last 24 hours, IGSU employees carried out 92 missions, including unlocking and towing skidded vehicles; supporting medical teams to reach patients (18 cases); and removing fallen trees from roads in Șoldănești and Soroca districts. No casualties have been reported.

The National Army has activated the forces and means designated for intervention in exceptional natural situations. At the request of local public authorities, in Dubăsari district two National Army teams intervened, and in Strășeni district three teams provided support in spreading anti-skid material. At present, another three teams are in the field.

Rescuers and firefighters continue to work around the clock throughout the country. Citizens are urged to exercise caution, follow weather warnings, and call 112 in case of emergency. We urge road traffic participants to drive with increased caution, adapt their speed to road conditions, keep a safe distance, and ensure that vehicles are properly equipped for winter driving.
