Ferry service at Molovata not to resume in coming weeks

The ferry service at Molovata has not been resumed and most likely will not be possible in the coming weeks due to weather conditions. During this period, economic agents have access to the localities on the left bank of the Dniester to deliver the necessary products. The information was presented today by Deputy Prime Minister for Reintegration Valeriu Chiveri, before the Government meeting.

The official emphasized that there is an issue regarding the supply of ATMs with MDL in the localities of the region, but it will be resolved in the coming days.

“At present, the situation is under control. The economic agents that provide goods delivery services have access to the localities. We have a small problem regarding the supply of ATMs in the region with MDL, but I hope we will solve it in the coming days,” said Valeriu Chiveri.

The Deputy Prime Minister also referred to the discussions held within the cooperation formats with the Transnistrian side.

“We must admit that they have been understanding toward our requests, made through the Joint Control Commission and the 1+1 communication format. Thus, the transit of this area was accepted. At present, the ferry traffic has not been resumed and, most likely, in the coming weeks this will not be possible due to weather conditions,” he added.

The ferry service at Molovata has been suspended since January 14 of this year, due to the thick layer of ice formed on the Dniester River. Traffic is to be resumed as soon as the weather conditions and ice thickness allow safe navigation.

The ferry remains the only free access route for the about 9,000 residents on Cocieri plateau—the communes of Molovata Nouă, Cocieri, and Corjova.
