Moldovan parliament speaker says Russian drone detected in southern region serious threat to security of Moldova
The discovery of a new drone on the territory of Moldova shows the seriousness of the security threats in the region, says Parliament Speaker Igor Grosu. The official described the incident as another serious violation of the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Moldova by the Russian Federation and reiterated the need to strengthen the state’s defense capabilities.
“Some politicians, who for four years have never condemned the barbaric war waged by the Russian Federation in Ukraine, were throwing phrases at us like ‘why do you keep scaring and blackmailing us that the war is close’. Today’s reality shows how serious these risks are,” underlined the speaker.
According to Igor Grosu, on Monday, a new drone with a length of approximately 2.5 metres was found in the locality of Crocmaz, Stefan Voda district., on January 19 at about 9:25. This time, the device is active and contains an explosive device, which represents an imminent danger to the population. Under these circumstances, specialists from the Police’s technical and explosive unit are to carry out a controlled detonation on the spot.
Igor Grosu described the incident as another serious infringement of the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Moldova by the Russian Federation and reiterated the need to continue investments in capabilities to detect and protect the airspace, in the context of repeated violations.
At the same time, the parliament speaker expressed gratitude to the citizens who discovered the drone and showed responsibility by immediately notifying the Police and avoiding any personal intervention.
