Chișinău parliamentary delegation participates in PACE winter session

The delegation of the Parliament of the Republic of Moldova is participating in the winter session of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE). The session is taking place on 26–30 January in Strasbourg, French Republic.

The delegation includes Deputy Speaker Doina Gherman, the head of the national delegation to PACE, MP Ion Groza, as well as delegation members, MPs Veronica Roșca, Renato Usatîi, and Igor Dodon.

During the meeting, President Maia Sandu will deliver a speech and answer questions from PACE parliamentarians. In addition, Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Foreign Affairs Mihai Popșoi will present the traditional communication on behalf of the Presidency of the Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe.

Six current affairs topics have been proposed for urgent debate. These concern: “Threats to the international order: the case of Greenland”; “Actions by the U.S. administration against Venezuela and threats to other countries in Latin America and to Greenland/Denmark”; “Preserving the integrity of the European Convention on Human Rights system”; “Ensuring accountability, humanitarian protection, and respect for international law in Gaza and the West Bank after the ceasefire”; “Marking the 65th anniversary of the adoption of the European Social Charter”; and “Ensuring the protection of the international justice system.”

Other debates scheduled for the PACE winter session concern a just and lasting peace for Ukraine, the security of the European continent, and elections in times of crisis. The agenda also includes debates on the honouring of obligations and commitments by Bosnia and Herzegovina, the post-monitoring dialogue with North Macedonia, as well as the observation of early parliamentary elections in the Kyrgyz Republic. Parliamentarians will also discuss strengthening democracies together with young people, socialization in schools, and inclusive and participatory education.

There will also be elections for the new President and Vice-Presidents of PACE, as well as for judges of the European Court of Human Rights. During the PACE winter session, a ceremony will be held to mark the International Holocaust Remembrance Day.

The Republic of Moldova holds the Presidency of the Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe from 14 November 2025 to 15 May 2026. Our country has been a member state of the Council of Europe since 1995.
