Moldovan head of state meets Romania's president
When Chișinău and Bucharest join hands, we create things that improve the daily lives of people on both banks of the Prut River - bridges, roads, modern schools, connected universities, secure electricity lines and gas networks, successful businesses, jobs and tourism with great potential. President Maia Sandu today made statements to this effect, following a meeting with her Romanian counterpart, Nicusor Dan.
The head of state said that Romania was a staunch partner of Moldova, which is extremely important in the context of the war in Ukraine.
‘’Together with the President of Romania, Nicusor Dan, a staunch partner, a friend, and a person who respects Moldova, we shared the same gratitude for the power of the citizens, who have mathematically gathered their strength, vote by vote, and defeated a tremendous threat. We have a difficult path ahead together. A brutal war, uncertainty and the increasing pressure of disinformation aim to divide us into opposing factions, bring hatred between us and weaken support for Ukraine to extend destruction further - towards Odessa, towards Chisinau, towards Bucharest,’’ Maia Sandu stated.
The official emphasized that Moldova would gain its place in the European family, in safety and Nicusor Dan and Romania stand with us.
‘’Both Moldova and Romania have overcome these dangers. We have endured. A resilient Moldova means the safety of our families, the serenity of the 1,222 km of border with Ukraine, as well as the 684 km border with Romania. However, the danger has not passed. Moldova, Romania and the entire Europe are resisting and will be able to continue to endure as long as Ukraine's shield stands firm. As long as we act in solidarity and defend fundamental values - life, peace, freedom. Moldova will earn its place in the European family, in safety and Nicusor Dan and Romania stand with us. Chisinau and Bucharest act as equal partners, with the same objectives - to reconcile people who have been set against each other by those who wish us harm, to contribute to peace on the continent and to care for the future of all children on our land,’’ Maia Sandu stressed.
For his part, President of Romania Nicusor Dan said that his visit reaffirmed Romania's comprehensive, sincere and constant support for Moldova.
‘’I am pleased to be here today in Chisinau, on my first official visit as President of Romania. I am here to reaffirm Romania's comprehensive, sincere and constant support for Moldova at a crucial moment on its European path, in strengthening its stability and resilience. My message to the citizens is this - the Republic of Moldova is part of the European family and Romania will always stand by you!' said Nicusor Dan.
President of Romania Nicusor Dan is on his first official visit to Chisinau today. The Cotroceni leader had bilateral discussions with the head of state, Maia Sandu. At the same time, he will have meetings with the Parliament Speaker Igor Grosu and Prime Minister Dorin Recean.
