Moldovan PM about possible reshuffles following Airport incident
Chisinau, July 6. /MOLDPRES/- Prime Minister Dorin Recean said today that a decision on possible reshuffles following the tragic incident at the Chisinau International Airport could be taken after the prosecution's investigation in this regard is completed and after the presentation of the report on the actions of the institutions within the Airport.
"At the end of this week we will have the first detailed report on the actions of all the institutions within the Airport, after which the prosecution's investigation will be completed. That's when we will make a decision", Recean said.
"The Border Police has accurately identified the citizen of Tajikistan as a high-risk individual. He passed through other airports, including Istanbul Airport, which is considered a high-security airport, and was not identified, could not be identified in any high-risk database. However, our border guards, based on the filters and criteria they apply together with the Intelligence and Security Service, were able to immediately identify that this person poses a potential danger. Then, when the first shot was heard, the police patrol that was in the vicinity of the airport intervened in less than two minutes and isolated the people from danger. Most likely, this person, in order to save himself, wanted to take hostages. If it wasn't for the prompt intervention of these police officers according to the protocols, there was a high probability, almost a certainty that things would have degraded even more and we would have had hostages", Recean said.
Two people - a border policeman and an airport security employee died on June 30 at the Chisinau International Airport, after they were shot by a citizen of Tajikistan, who was not allowed to enter the country. The aggressor was injured during the arrest and a few days later he died in the hospital.
