Moldovan president on stage in Chisinau says Moldova has everything needed to succeed, to certainly be part of European Union

Moldova, just like our young people, has everything it needs to succeed: the same energy, the same confidence in its own strength and, surely, one day we will be part of the European Union. The message on May 9 evening was delivered by Head of State Maia Sandu, together with the President of Cyprus Nikos Christodoulides, at the concert dedicated to Europe Day, organized on the Great National Assembly Square (PMAN) in the centre of the capital.

The two officials delivered strong messages supporting the European path of Moldova and were applauded by the citizens who gathered in the heart of Chisinau.

President Maia Sandu addressed the young people on PMAN. She spoke about their courage to be free, to discover the world and to dream.

“Many young people are here on the Great National Assembly Square, where, three decades ago, your parents or grandparents came to demand freedom, thinking of you. I admire your energy, I admire your courage to say what you think, I admire your wish to discover this big world and I admire your power to dream. Our Moldova resembles you, dear young people,” Maia Sandu said.

The head of state stressed that, just like the young people, our country steps proudly into the wide world to show its potential.

“Maybe we do not yet have everything, because we are a young state, but we have big dreams. Our Moldova has the energy to work, so that we become a country like the European states we admire. Just like you, our country has the courage to shape its own destiny. Today, as we celebrate Europe, we have talked about the values of the European Union and about the reason why we want to get there, but we must also say what we bring to Europe. We have beautiful music that makes our hearts beat in the same rhythm, we have champions, traditions that we have preserved very well, we have diversity and creativity. And we have something else – very good cuisine! Moldova, just like you, has everything it needs to succeed: the same energy, the same confidence in its own strength and, surely, one day we will be part of the EU. Long live European Moldova!” Maia Sandu added.

For his part, President of Cyprus Nikos Christodoulides said that he had come to Chisinau to deliver a very clear message: the future of Moldova is in the European Union.

“I am here alongside a European leader who is a true source of inspiration. It is the first time that a President of Cyprus is paying a visit to Moldova and this visit is taking place during the period in which Cyprus holds the Presidency of the Council of the European Union. We fully support you on your path towards joining the European Union, as you reform and transform your country!” he emphasized.

The official reiterated the support of his country and of the European Union for Moldova. He also praised the country’s ambition and achievements in the process of European integration.

“The Cypriot Presidency and the European Union stand by you today and every day. You are walking the path towards becoming a member state of the European Union, together with millions of Europeans. You must be proud of your country’s achievements. Moldova is a champion in the enlargement process and together we have achieved a great deal. You are and will always be part of Europe. We are and will remain by your side. Long live Europe!” Nikos Christodoulides said.

Moldova celebrated Europe Day on May 9 – a festival of peace, unity and diversity. It recalls the historic moment of the Schuman Declaration, which laid the foundations of European cooperation and of the current European Union. In the context of Moldova’s European path, the holiday has gained a special significance, reflecting the country’s aspirations for integration and development.
