Europe Day // Romanian Ambassador says Moldova should look to future with confidence, Romania stands by country's side
The European path of Moldova is “a natural and deeply legitimate choice”, based on the values, culture and common history of the two states. Romania will continue to support Moldova on its path to accession to the European Union. Ambassador of Romania to Moldova Cristian-Leon Turcanu has made statements to this effect in a video message addressed to Moldovan citizens on the occasion of Europe Day, marked on May 9.
The diplomat emphasized that Romania’s experience in the European Union clearly showed the benefits of European integration for citizens.
''Being able to decide our own future and to live in peace and with dignity – this is the deepest meaning of freedom. For Romania, belonging to the European Union has meant precisely the consolidation of this freedom, the acceleration of development and profound transformations that have brought real changes to people’s lives. Economic growth, modernized infrastructure and opportunities for citizens show quite concretely what belonging to the European Union means,” the ambassador said.
The ambassador underlined that the European Union is more than a political or economic construct, representing “the strongest guarantee” that democratic values can become reality in everyday life.
“That is why, for us, the European path of Moldova is a natural and deeply legitimate choice. A path that brings you closer to the place to which you belong through history, culture and values – the European family. We know that this road is not easy, but we equally know that it is a road worth taking for the well-being of the people, for better opportunities for young people, for stronger institutions and for a secure and dignified future for the generations to come.
Romania is and will remain alongside Moldova with all its determination, expertise and support, so that the benefits of European integration are tangibly reflected in the life of every citizen,” declared Cristian-Leon Turcanu.
The ambassador listed, among the examples of solidarity, the kindergarten renovation projects, the scholarships provided to young Moldovans in universities in Romania, energy interconnections, and SMURD (Mobile Emergency Service for Resuscitation and Extrication) missions.
“Day by day, Romania proves that, when it comes to the safety and well-being of citizens on both banks of the Prut River, solidarity knows no borders,” the diplomat stressed.
Cristian-Leon Turcanu also praised the resilience of Moldova in the face of regional challenges, as well as the support provided to Ukraine, noting that they show the country’s attachment to European values.
“My message is to look to the future with confidence. Romania stands by your side, with confidence and with the conviction that your European path is one of hope, stability and success. Together, for freedom, for dignity, and for peace. Europe is me; Europe is you. Long live Europe! Long live the special relation between us, growing stronger every day,” said the ambassador of Romania.
