PHOTO // Moldovan PM says Russia has not learned its lesson, Moldova heading to the EU, which brings prosperity, peace
The Russian Federation, the successor of the Soviet Union, regrettably, has not learned its lesson from the Second World War. Moldova is heading towards the European Union, which brings prosperity and peace. Prime Minister Alexandru Munteanu has made statements to this effect. He laid flowers at the “Eternity” Memorial Complex in the capital, together with President Maia Sandu and Parliament Speaker Igor Grosu.
The PM stressed that today Moldova commemorates the victims of the great war for the defense of peace.
“The Second World War did not start on June 22, 1941, but on September 1, 1939, when the Soviet Union and Nazi Germany were allies; that was when Poland was divided and Bessarabia was torn from Romania. The Second World War ended on September 2, 1945. Regrettably, Russia, the successor of the Soviet Union, has not learned its lesson. Our country is heading towards the European Union, which brings prosperity and peace,” said Alexandru Munteanu.
Every year, on May 9, Moldova commemorates the victims of the Second World War. Over 56,000 Moldovans lost their lives on the front. Today, events dedicated to the heroes who fought for the defense of peace are organized throughout the country.
In Moldova, May 9 has a double significance: the commemoration of the victory over fascism and Nazism and the celebration of Europe Day.
