European Parliament President to visit Chisinau on November 6-7
European Parliament President Roberta Metsola will visit Chisinau on November 6-7. Parliament Speaker Igor Grosu today made statements to this effect at the show 'In Context' at the public TV station.
The speaker emphasized that Roberta Metsola would deliver a speech in the Moldovan parliament.
‘’We will have discussions with Roberta Metsola, who is coming to Chisinau on November 6-7. We will host her in parliament. She will undoubtedly deliver a speech before the parliament’s plenary meeting and we will obviously discuss these aspects of opening the negotiations themselves,’’ said Igor Grosu.
The parliament speaker said that the Moldovan authorities wanted the rapid opening of negotiation chapters with the EU.
‘’We want it very quickly. We also saw Commissioner for Enlargement Marta Kos's statement saying that Moldova is ready for all six chapters. I know they are looking for a solution. You know the problem. A consensus is needed at the member states level of the European Union. We believe it would be correct to have the same start together with our Ukrainian neighbors. A solution is being sought. We hope very much that it will be found soon,’’ specified Igor Grosu.
Moldova completed the bilateral screening process in Brussels on September 22, which began in July 2024. During the exercise, public institutions’ experts analyzed over 100,000 pages of national legislation compared to the European Union’s one.
The bilateral screening process is a detailed analysis of national legislation compared to the EU acquis and constitutes an essential step in the accession negotiations with the European Union. Its completion is considered a major step in the European path of Moldova, which got its status of candidate for accession in June 2022.
