Parliamentary committees held 290 meetings in first ordinary session of 2026

The 12 standing committees of Parliament held 290 meetings in the first ordinary session of 2026. During this period, they approved 447 reports and co-reports, as well as 471 opinions.

According to the Parliament’s Communication and Public Relations Department, the highest number of reports was submitted by the committee on economy, budget and finance – 111, the legal committee on rules and immunities – 59, and the foreign policy committee – 37. The Committee on European Integration presented the highest number of co-reports – 56.

As for opinions, most were submitted by the Committee on Public Administration and Regional Development – 94, the Committee on Social Protection, Health and Family – 88, and the Committee on Environment, Climate and Green Transition – 80.

The legal committee on rules and immunities and the committee on economy, budget and finance held the highest number of meetings – 35 each. The Committee on European Integration met in 27 meetings, while the Committee on Foreign Policy and the Committee on Environment, Climate and Green Transition met in 25 meetings each.

In the first ordinary session of 2026, 46 draft normative acts aimed at harmonizing the legislation of the Republic of Moldova with the European Union acquis were assigned to the standing committees for examination. Most of these – 19 – were assigned for substantive examination to the Committee on Economy, Budget and Finance. Another 7 draft normative acts were assigned to the Committee on Social Protection, Health and Family, and 6 to the legal committee on rules and immunities. The Committee on European Integration is co-rapporteur for 45 of the 46 draft normative acts.

In the same period, the Special Committee for Parliamentary Monitoring and Control over the Implementation of the Policy on the Reintegration of the Republic of Moldova, chaired by MP Ion Groza, met in two sessions. The committee’s objective is to monitor and assess the situation regarding reintegration policies, as well as to formulate proposals and recommendations on the main current issues in the field.

Also during the first ordinary session of 2026, Parliament set up two inquiry committees. The inquiry committee for examining the phenomenon of telephone, financial and digital fraud and evaluating the effectiveness of measures to prevent and combat it is chaired by MP Lilian Carp, while the inquiry committee for examining the activity of state-owned enterprises is chaired by MP Dinu Plîngău.

The standing committees are working bodies of Parliament that examine draft legislative acts and legislative proposals in order to develop reports or opinions, which are then submitted to the plenary for debate and adoption. The committees also conduct parliamentary inquiries, debate and decide on other issues, including at the instruction of the Speaker of Parliament or the deputy speakers.
