Message by European Commissioner for Enlargement on Independence Day of Republic of Moldova

European Commissioner for Enlargement Marta Kos today sent a congratulatory message on the occasion of the Republic of Moldova's Independence Day. She  emphasized the European Union's support for the country's European path.

“Happy Independence Day, Moldova! Today, we celebrate your independence, your achievements, your identity and traditions. This is a moment of pride. As you advance on the European path, Europe will continue to stand by you to build a brighter future for all Moldovan citizens,” said Marta Kos.

The Republic of Moldova annually marks the Independence Day on August 27; the country declared its sovereignty in 1991 after the dissolution of the Soviet Union. In recent years, the European Union has become the main political and economic partner of the Republic of Moldova, supporting reforms and the European integration process.
