President about cooperation with US: We have very good relations, important projects, including in energy sector

President Maia Sandu states that the Republic of Moldova has very good relations with the United States of America, and the support offered by Washington for strategic initiatives confirms this cooperation. The head of state also rejected claims about a possible cooling of Moldovan-American relations and welcomed the confirmation by the US Senate of Joseph Burkhalter as the future ambassador to the Republic of Moldova.

The President highlighted joint projects in the fields of energy, security and cybersecurity. The head of state expressed hope that these projects and cooperation programs will continue with the future US ambassador to the Republic of Moldova.

"We have very good relations, we have important projects, including projects in the energy sector. I would like to mention here the high-voltage electricity interconnection line, the Strășeni-Gutinaș high-voltage line, which will be fully financed by the Government of the United States. It is a large and very important project for us. In addition to this, we have projects in other areas as well, including security, cybersecurity and, of course, I want us to continue these actions, these cooperation programs also with the next ambassador," Maia Sandu said.

President Maia Sandu says that the support provided by the United States to the Republic of Moldova and the constant dialogue between officials of the two countries contradict claims that Moldovan-American relations are not good.

"These decisions to support the Republic of Moldova run counter to these accusations that we do not have good relations. And we have our embassy in the United States, which reports quite frequently on all meetings, we have many members of Congress from both parties who come to the Republic of Moldova and with whom we talk, who are concerned about our resilience and want us to be able to continue strengthening our democracy," the head of state said.

Maia Sandu welcomed the confirmation by the US Senate, on August 8, of Joseph Burkhalter as the future United States ambassador to the Republic of Moldova and stated that the authorities in Chișinău are ready to continue cooperation with Washington.

"We are glad that the ambassador is coming, because there was a period when we did not have a United States ambassador, and it was not just our situation, it was the situation of a large number of countries where ambassadors had not been appointed. Now this process has been unblocked and we will continue our cooperation," the head of state said.

Joseph Burkhalter has been confirmed by the US Senate as the future ambassador of the United States to the Republic of Moldova.
