Romania to further stand by Moldova in efforts to overcome current crises - Romanian PM says
Chisinau, March 1. /MOLDPRES/- Romania will continue to be with the Republic of Moldova in efforts to overcome the current crises and hybrid pressures. Prime Minister of Romania Nicolae Ciucă made the statement at a press conference held alongside Prime Minister of the Republic of Moldova Dorin Recean, who is paying a visit to the neighboring state today.
Arriving in Bucharest, Prime Minister Dorin Recean was greeted with military honors at the Victoria Palace. Afterwards, the two officials had a meeting.
"We are witnessing more and more attempts to destabilize the Republic of Moldova, to artificially create tensions, of hostile narratives built on the intentional spread of fake information. I assured my counterpart of Romania's unwavering support for respecting the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the Republic of Moldova in its internationally recognized borders. Romania constantly promotes, including in Brussels, the need to support the Republic of Moldova on several levels in order to resist Russia's attitude. Romania will continue to promote measures in security at the European level, an example being the goal of creating an EU civilian mission for the Republic of Moldova. We discussed reducing roaming tariffs, the need to speed up interconnection projects in electricity. On a bilateral level, Romania has demonstrated through facts that it is the most sincere and reliable partner. Romania will continue to be with Chisinau in its efforts to overcome the current crises and the hybrid pressures to which the Republic of Moldova is subjected", said Nicolae Ciucă.
According to the Romanian official, Romania has consolidated its status as the first commercial partner of the Republic of Moldova. "Romania is the second investor in the Republic of Moldova. We have figures that show that bilateral trade increased by 1.2 billion dollars in 2022 and reached the figure of about 3.6 billion dollars," he said.
Dorin Recean said that Bucharest is Chisinau's most important partner. "Bucharest helped us enormously in overcoming the energy crisis and remains our advocate in all European institutions, so that we can advance rapidly along the European path. The close relationship between Chisinau and Bucharest is strengthened through numerous concrete projects in different fields. Soon we will even have integrated financial markets and the capital market from Bucharest will be accessible to Chisinau. Regarding the EU accession agenda, we discussed the temporary deployment of experts from Bucharest to consult our institutions in the EU accession process. It is a difficult time for the European continent as a result of the Russian aggression in Ukraine. In this context, I appreciate the consistent support through the support platform for Moldova, initiated last year by Romania together with Germany and France, a platform that brings together partners and friends who are willing to help Moldova overcome the multiple crises triggered by the war", said Recean.
Dorin Recean pays an official visit to Romania today, this being his first visit abroad. The agenda includes meetings with President of Romania Klaus Iohannis, with Alina Gorghiu, interim head of Senate and Marcel Ciolacu, the president of the Chamber of Deputies of Romania.
