Moldova switches to daylight saving time: clock hands to be moved forward by one hour

Moldova is switching to daylight saving time. During the night of March 28 to 29, at 03:00, the clock hands will be moved forward by one hour, becoming 04:00.

With the switch to daylight saving time, Sunday, March 29, will have 23 hours and will be the shortest day of the year.

In late last February, the government approved a decision stipulating that Moldova will keep the official time corresponding to the UTC+2 time zone and will continue applying the seasonal time change. According to the authorities, maintaining this system allows alignment with the practice of the European Union  member states. No changes will be for citizens and the business environment.

The switch to daylight saving time was made for the first time in Germany and the United Kingdom in 1916. Moldova adopted this practice in 1979, in order to use natural light optimally and reduce artificial lighting. During the summer months, the sun rises at 4:30 and sets at approximately 20:00.

Moldova, the time change takes place twice a year: on the last Sunday of March, the country switches to daylight saving time, and on the last Sunday of October it returns to standard (winter) time.

More medical and psychology specialists claim that the switch to daylight saving time can affect the health and mood of many people, especially those suffering from chronic illnesses. According to them, during the few days that mark the transition from winter time to summer time, more rest and proper nutrition are recommended.

The switch from daylight saving time to standard time takes place in 70 countries, with the observance of the time zone differences.
