Head of State Maia Sandu took part today in the General Assembly of Judges. In her address, the President spoke about developments in the justice sector, noting the progress made in recent years, which is reflected both in increased public trust and in the evaluations of the European Commission. In this context, the Head of State referred to the role of upright judges in achieving these changes. “These results, still fragile but valuable, are largely due to the work of honest and dedicated people within the system,” Maia Sandu noted.

At the same time, the President addressed the need to continue the reform and pointed out the areas where additional action is required. “There is still much work to be done before the entire judicial system is imbued with the spirit of justice,” the Head of State stressed, highlighting as priorities the measures related to integrity assessment, court management, unification of judicial practice and professional training.

Maia Sandu reiterated that the way the justice reform is carried through will determine the progress of the process of accession to the European Union. “The most important reform for the European integration of the Republic of Moldova is the justice reform,” the President stated.

However, the Head of State underlined that the changes in the justice sector must first and foremost benefit the citizens. “We are not carrying out the justice reform because the European Union asks us to, but because people in our country want the law to be at the head of the table; they want, when they seek justice in court, to have confidence that they will find it,” the President said.
