Moldovan government joins Earth Hour international initiative

The Government of the Republic of Moldova
gov.md

The government is urging citizens to turn off the lights today, March 28, between 20:30 and 21:30, in order to mark Earth Hour. On these days, Earth Hour is, in our country, more than just a symbolic gesture; it is a collective action with a real impact on society as a whole. During this time, the lights in the government building will be turned off, as a sign of solidarity with global efforts to protect the environment. Even a reduction of just 1–3 per cent during peak hours contributes significantly to maintaining the balance between production and consumption, reducing network congestion and limiting the need to use additional balancing resources.

The Earth Hour movement is an international event held annually on the last Saturday of March. Millions of people and institutions in numerous cities and countries around the world turn off their lights for one hour, in order to draw attention to climate change and energy savings.

We call on the entire society to turn tonight’s Earth Hour into an act of collective solidarity and to disconnect electrical power, and during peak hours in this period to reduce consumption, following Russia’s attack that led to the disconnection of the Isaccea–Vulcanesti high-voltage line. We also urge people to avoid the simultaneous use of high-power household appliances (washing machines, electric ovens, boilers) during peak hours, to schedule their use outside maximum-load intervals (especially in the evening), to use lighting efficiently, and to unplug unused equipment.
