EU Entry/Exit System extended to more border crossing points of Moldova as of March 2
The European Union’s Entry/Exit System (EES) became operational, starting from 2 March 2026, at more Moldova-Romania state border crossing points.
According to the Border Police, the EES is applied starting from today at the following crossing points: Leuseni–Albita; Sculeni–Sculeni; Leova–Bumbata; Giurgiulesti–Galati, port and rail; Ungheni–Iasi, rail.
The system applies to citizens of states that are not part of the European Union and who make short stays in EU territory, of up to 90 days in any 180-day period.
At the first border crossing under the EES: the travel document is scanned; biometric data is collected; an electronic file of the traveller is created.
The authorities recall that the Entry/Exit System is already operational at other border crossing points: Costesti–Stanca, since October 12, 2025; Giurgiulesti–Galati, since November 24, 2025; Cahul–Oancea, since November 24, 2025; Lipcani–Radauti Prut, since January 9, 2026.
The Entry/Exit System is an electronic mechanism of the European Union meant for the automatic registration of entries and exits of citizens of third countries, with the aim of strengthening border security and monitoring compliance with the legal length of stay. For additional information, the Border Police recommend consulting the official European Union platform dedicated to the EES.
