Prime Minister: Russia's intentions to hijack government in Chișinău confirmed and documented
Prime Minister Dorin Recean said today during a press conference held jointly with Speaker Igor Grosu that Kremlin's plans to destabilize the Republic of Moldova and hijack the government are "confirmed and documented" by state institutions.
"What we are telling you is not just an electoral tactic. Their intentions are already confirmed by senior Kremlin officials and their mouthpieces. It is a fierce battle they are waging to steal our European future," he said.
The Prime Minister drew attention to the methods by which pro-Russian groups attempt to influence the electoral process and destabilize the country: bribing voters with money offered by the network led by Ilan Shor.
"After stealing from the citizens, they are now trying to buy their vote with a few hundred lei," said Recean.
He also mentioned the organization of paid protests with the aim of inciting violence and putting pressure on state institutions.
"The police have already documented over 400 individuals involved in these activities," added the Prime Minister.
Recean reiterated that in 2024 Kremlin had spent 100 million dollars on interference in the internal affairs of the Republic of Moldova, and the amounts increased significantly in 2025.
"In just the last two weeks, the police have conducted over 180 searches and investigated more than 300 individuals involved in these illegal actions. State institutions are working and will continue to protect democracy," stated Recean.
The Prime Minister emphasized that the election on September 28 represents a decisive moment for the fate of the Republic of Moldova.
"It is crucial to come out and vote to maintain peace and the European direction. Russia cannot do anything to us if we do not let it. Those who want to return to power have been in power before and have written the darkest period of our history. They openly state that they want the Russian army to reach our homes, that they will limit the vote of the diaspora, and will cut the support of the European Union," warned Dorin Recean.
According to him, only a pro-European majority in Parliament can guarantee the achievement of the country's strategic objective, integration into the European Union.
The official made an appeal to citizens.
"Dear citizens, your vote is more powerful than any danger. No one can defeat the honest vote of the people. On September 28, we must mobilize and choose a pro-European parliamentary majority, for peace, development, and the future of our children," he said.
On September 28, parliamentary elections will take place in the Republic of Moldova.
