Access to education for children of Moldova's Security Zone: 350 tablets distributed to schools hit by energy crisis
The Ministry of Education and Research (MEC) has distributed 350 tablets to educational institutions in the Security Zone, hit by the energy crisis. Students will use the new devices to connect online to classes.
Each device was delivered with a case, protective glass and an external battery.
MEC has proposed several measures to adapt school activities in the affected educational institutions. Thus, students taking exams will continue their classes in physical format, and, depending on the situation in each region, where the infrastructure allows, either online education or a temporary one-week holiday with subsequent recovery of classes will be chosen.
According to MEC’s data, out of the 2,334 students studying online, approximately 90 per cent are logging into classes. Those who have not participated in online lessons have pointed out that they cannot connect, over the lack of devices or necessary conditions (electricity, internet, or sufficient devices for families with many children).
Additionally, starting this week, air conditioning units will be installed in most educational institutions, to ensure thermal comfort in classrooms and, consequently, the physical presence of students in primary classes and those in graduating classes (9th and 12th grades).
MEC emphasized that, along with development partners, it would continue to identify solutions to conduct the educational process in the best conditions.
