Chisinau to host more events dedicated to World Press Freedom Day
Chisinau, 3 May /MOLDPRES/ - More events dedicated to the World Press Freedom Day, traditionally marked on 3 May, will be organised in Chisinau, according to representatives of non-governmental organisations of the media sector.
The director of the Moldovan Independent Journalism Centre, Nadine Gogu, has said that these actions were meant to prove that the authorities did not undertake enough measures to back the press freedom and independence in Moldova.
“More public actions will be carried out on 3-20 May, among which the posting of a panel of shame titled “Enemies of press on 2025-2016 period,” a Press Solidarity March, launch of a campaign against plagiarism in mass media, starting of the third issue of a contest for environmental journalism, etc.” Gogu noted.
According to a report on media freedom in the world, carried out by the Freedom House international organisation in 2015-2016, Moldova has preserved its status of country with partially free press.
The United Nations General Assembly proclaimed the World Press Freedom Day in 1993, in order to bring to public attention the importance and need to observe the freedom of expression.
