Commission for Prosecutors' Evaluation to hear leadership of Moldova's Prosecutor General's Office, Special Prosecutor's Office

The Commission for Prosecutors’ Evaluation this week will hear Deputy Interim  Prosecutor General Sergiu Russu and the Interim Chief Prosecutor of the Prosecutor’s Office for Combating Organized Crime and Special Causes  (PCCOCS) Victor Furtuna.

Both hearings will take place at the National Institute of Justice and are open to the public. According to the Commission, Sergiu Russu will be heard on July 22, and Victor Furtuna - on July 25.

The Commission reviewed the files of the two prosecutors, which include the declarations of assets and personal interests from the past five years, information about close relatives who hold public positions, ethical integrity questionnaires, as well as information collected from public authorities and institutions, private entities, including data collected from information systems.

To clarify any ambiguities, the Commission sent each prosecutor four rounds of written questions, while also providing them the opportunity to present additional evidence.

The public hearings allow Commission members to ask direct questions and discuss unclear aspects and prosecutors have the opportunity to reason their positions, as well as to supplement the evaluation file with evidence.

The leadership of the Anti-Corruption Prosecutor's Office has been earlier evaluated — interim chief prosecutor Marcel Dumbravan and interim deputies Octavian Iachimovschi, Mariana Leahu and Victor Muntean.
