Children of Moldova will more easily receive maintenance payments from parents who have left abroad. This will be possible after Moldova joins the Convention on the Recovery Abroad of Maintenance for Children and Other Members of the Family.
The law for Moldova's accession to the Convention and the decree of the head of state promulgating it today were published in the Official Journal.
The initiative will allow court decisions issued in Moldova regarding maintenance payments to be more easily recognized and enforced in the 52 signatory countries of the Convention. The documents will be managed by the Ministry of Justice, which will communicate with foreign authorities and will be able to designate competent custodial authorities to act on behalf of creditors.
According to official data, about 50,000 children are involved in enforcement procedures for collecting maintenance payments and over 16 per cent of families with children have at least one member who has left abroad.
