The government approved the decision on July 16, "as a sign of gratitude and respect for Eugen Doga's outstanding contribution to the development and promotion of Moldova’s culture."

According to the draft, the initiative aims to honor the memory and eternalize the name of Maestro Eugen Doga, a symbol of the country’s culture, Romanian spirit, and an ambassador of Moldova worldwide through his unmistakable music.

Globally, it is a common practice for international airports to bear the names of notable personalities, for example: Frederic Chopin Airport in Warsaw, Charles de Gaulle Airport in Paris, or Leonardo da Vinci' Airport in Rome.

Eugen Doga, composer, professor, and academician, was one of the most remarkable personalities of the national culture. Born on March 1, 1937, in the village of Mocra, in the Transnistrian region, he became famous worldwide for his music, especially for the waltz from the film, My Sweet and Tender Beast, considered by UNESCO as a masterpiece of the 20th century.

Throughout his career, Doga composed over 200 soundtracks, symphonic works, and chamber music, receiving numerous awards. Modest and close to people, Eugen Doga remained dedicated to art until the end. Maestro Eugen Doga passed away on June 3, 2025, at the age of 88.

Presently, the pedestrian street in Chisinau bears the name of composer Eugen Doga. At the same time, the School of Arts in the city of Ialoveni might bear the maestro's name. The initiative belongs to the local mayor, Sergiu Armasu, who has asked for the organization of public consultations to this end.
