DOC // Moldovans working in Switzerland to be able to receive pensions, social guarantees
Moldovans residing in the Swiss Confederation will be able to benefit from pensions and other social guarantees, under an international Social Security Agreement signed in Bern on June 2, 2025. The decree for promulgating and the law for ratifying the agreement today were published in the Official Journal (Monitorul Oficial) of Moldova.
The document concerns employees, self-employed workers, posted workers, as well as the staff of diplomatic and consular missions of both states. They will be able to receive old-age pensions, disability pensions and survivor's pensions, in conditions proportional to the insurance period accumulated in each state.
Thus, each country will pay the part of the pension corresponding to the contribution period completed on its territory. The new provision offers direct social protection to Moldovan citizens who have worked legally in Switzerland, ensuring the continuity of their pension rights.
This law comes into effect on the date of its publication in the Official Journal. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs will notify the Swiss side about the ratification of the agreement.
Presently, Moldova has 18 bilateral social security agreements in force with various states.
