Spokesman for government provides clarifications on repatriation of Moldovan citizens infringing regime of stay abroad

The spokesman for the government, Daniel Voda, today provided clarifications on the procedures for the repatriation of Moldovan citizens who infringe the regime of stay abroad.

According to him, Moldova can intervene only in cases involving its own citizens who have violated the regime of stay in another country. In such situations, the Moldovan authorities collaborate with partners, in order to bring these individuals back home, in compliance with the law, emphasized Daniel Voda.

“There is ongoing dialogue between the institutions of Moldova and the authorities of other states—not just with a single country or administration. Our compatriots are present in many countries worldwide, and in some cases, for various reasons, some do not comply with all conditions of stay and may be repatriated,” the official said.

He noted that until now, the authorities had not had an exact figure regarding repatriation requests on behalf of the USA during the period of the new administration. “However, it is an ongoing process, and our specialized institutions are actively involved in managing these cases, based on international agreements and legislation,” said Daniel Voda.

The government’s spokesman emphasized the importance of observing the host country’s laws, wherever we are. He added that the overwhelming majority of Moldovans already do so—they are honest people who work, study, invest and behave respectfully abroad.

“That is precisely why the authorities of Moldova maintain an open and professional dialogue with all partner states, in order to provide support to our compatriots when necessary, and to manage these situations legally, transparently, and responsibly,” Daniel Voda stressed.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs today informed that more Moldovan citizens, illegally present in Poland, would be repatriated to Moldova. The procedure takes place under international readmission mechanisms, and the authorities of Moldova have provided the necessary support for authorizing the aircraft's overflight and landing at the Chisinau International Airport.

According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, a similar operation took place last April.
